Still Life

So, I totally forgot to post my still life picture last week. Here was the best shot I got:

But my husband had to show me up. He took a better one (of the sagebrush blooming - no kidding):

This Week in Writing

So, once again I'm planning the week, thanks to inspiration from Kirsten. This week, I'm planning:
  1. to get all the laundry actually finished and PUT AWAY today.
  2. on mailing a Happy 9th Birthday gift to one of my favorite little girls.
  3. to get the fabric cut for all the dog collars I'm making for the craft fair at work next week. I'm hoping I can crank 60 or so of those things out.
  4. to get my hair done on Thursday.
  5. to buy plane tickets for Thanksgiving.
  6. to make Halloween pillows.
  7. to finish reading a book or two.
  8. to really, actually get some yard work done before the snow hits here.
  9. to actually get some deep cleaning thrown in when I clean the house this week.
So, what do you have planned this week?

Funny Dogs

So, since Life is Funny all the time, I just had to share this email that I got from my aunt regarding her adorable golden retriever puppies. Rocky is their newest one who is still not yet a year old. Chip is 2-ish, I believe. Anyway, here it is :
I need to post the picture on facebook but funny thing happened with Chip -- we took he & Rocky to St. Francis Winery for the Blessing of the Animals. While the priest was blessing Rocky (who was sitting there like a little angel), Chip had his head in the holy water and was drinking it! I think this pretty much secures my corner table in Hell. :)

Your life is funny too, right? Come on, you know it is!

Planning...

So, I'm a little late, but it's Monday again, and Kirsten and I are on a roll. This week I'm planning...
  1. to buy my mom a birthday present and actually get it in the mail so that it will get to her IN TIME for her birthday.
  2. to take my doggie to the vet to make sure the sore on her leg is healing.
  3. to work a senior health fair on Wednesday.
  4. to buy plane tickets for Thanksgiving.
  5. to go into work early for a change (2 days, even).
  6. to read my book club book, plus finish 1 or 2 books (since I can't seem to get this one done, it's piling up)
  7. to vacuum the dog hair off the couch in the loft (one of these weeks, I'll get to this one).
  8. to finish that d*&% apron I started.
  9. to make tiny Halloween pillows BEFORE Halloween gets here.
  10. to pull out a few more dead plants. If I do a few each week, maybe I'll get there.

Don't Mind the Derriere

Don't mind my derriere but here is the picture of my bruise from that fall. Yes, it finally became a nice shade of purple. This picture doesn't really do it justice.

The Lewis Genes Strike Again

So, for those who don't understand the title of this post, I'll fill you in. My maiden name is Lewis. The Lewis genes are very strong. They seem to overwhelm all cross-breeding. All true Lewis' can and will talk until they have no voice left, even if no one is around to hear them. My friends (lovingly!) all comment on how much I talk. My standard response is, "You should see the rest of my family." Seriously. When we're all together, I can't get a word in. I'm not making this up.

Also, all Lewis' are extremely clumsy and accident prone. I'm not sure why, but it's true. And just to prove how strong the Lewis genes are, my cousin Stephanie was raised by her mom and step-dad. My uncle wasn't around much when she was growing up (thus eliminating the nurture part of this argument). We got together a few years ago, and I hadn't seen her since we were about 7. I was amazed at how alike we are. We both talk a lot, have husbands who don't like for us to use knives (due to said clumsiness), and even own the exact same travel mug from Starbucks.

Well, these Lewis genes got me again yesterday. I was walking through the kitchen on my way upstairs. I had my hands full, and I hit a wet spot on the floor. My feet (barefoot, even) went right out from under me. I didn't even have time to think about catching myself. Everything went crashing to the ground. The glass I had in my hand shattered into a million tiny fragments. I hit with a solid thud on the side of my thigh. I thought I was gonna have a nasty bruise, but somehow the "battle scar" I was expecting just didn't want to cooperate. My leg is bruised but not much. The only problem is that now my knee hurts. Yes, this is the same knee that I've had surgery on 3 times now. I'm putting my knee brace back on, in the hope that it just needs to rest for a few days. Other than that, I told Jerrod that nothing was hurt except my pride. He asked why that mattered, stating that he's seen me do worse things - such a sympathetic guy, isn't he?

Anyway, the moral of this story is that those dang genetics will get you every time!

Seeing Red

Okay, so it's time once again for You Capture over at I Should Be Folding Laundry. This week we were supposed to take a picture of something red. For lack of anything better (as I didn't see any exciting red stuff), I fooled around with the new camera and a red candle and a mirror. My husband insists that he needs to help me, but I want to do it myself (insert 2-year-old foot stomp here). This was my best shot:

Borrowing

Um, so Wendy borrowed this post, and gave us all the freedom to *borrow* it right back from her. And since it's obvious that I'm lacking in motivation for blog topics this week, that's what I'm going to do. So, in true bloggy fashion, here is a list of things I don't support:
  • People who have animals but never spend any time with them.
  • Mornings.
  • Food companies that try to make unhealthy crap look like it's good for you.
  • People who complain incessantly about things but aren't willing to make any changes in order to fix the problem.
  • Stupidity and/or sheer ignorance.
  • When people are able to have kids and then don't appreciate them (or worse!).
  • Eggplant. Gross.
  • Abuse of the English language. If you don't know whether to use there/their/they're, or you don't realize that the words me and myself are NOT interchangeable, you should not be able to graduate from school. Period.
  • Telephone solicitors.
  • Junk mail.
  • Littering.
  • Drunk drivers.
  • Adults who act like children.
  • And to steal from Wendy again: "Those stupid little foil/paper covers they put over the tops of bottles that you have to tear off before you can get to the food/beverage inside. Why can't they put bigger flaps on them so that they're easier to get off?"
Today's post is brought to you by the number 6, the letter W, and the color orange...

Another week, another list

Okay, so it's time for another list of things to do this week. I really liked posting my list last week for all to see. It really helped me remember what I had to do and motivate me to accomplish some of it. I didn't get it all done, but that's okay. I think I managed to accomplish 7 out of 10 things listed, so that's not too bad. I tend to plan way too much stuff for myself, so I'll try to be more realistic this week. Here goes:
  1. Re-pot the plant I brought home from work like 2 weeks ago.
  2. Make granola.
  3. Make it to karate both Tuesday and Thursday night.
  4. Give the diaper bag I finally finished to my friend.
  5. Make dinner for a fellow karate student's family. (She had back surgery.)
  6. Have coffee with Whitney.
  7. Finish reading one more book, plus the book I almost finished this last week.
  8. Finish that apron that I didn't finish on my last list. I promise I worked on it, but it just didn't quite get done.
  9. I still need to vacuum the fuzz off the couch in the loft.
  10. Now I also really need to scrub down the shower.
  11. Touch up the paint in our bedroom.
  12. Pull some of the dead plants out of my flower beds.
Okay, somehow this list is even longer than last week's. Things never calm down. If you'd like to add your list, visit Kirsten and post the link in the comments. Maybe one of these days she'll get a carnival going!

Feels Like Fall

Okay, so I'm a slacker. But I finally got around to posting the pics for this week's You Capture challenge. The challenge was to capture the feeling of fall, even though it didn't feel like fall yet. Well, as soon as I took pictures it actually started to feel like fall here, but that's a different challenge for a different day. What I captured was our haul of produce from the farmer's market. It feels like fall to me because the tomatoes are actually ripe, and I know this will most likely be somewhere near the end of the good local produce.

Friday, October 2, 2009

So, I'm kind of out of ideas this week, but here are some things I read that I enjoyed:
  • Katrina at Callapidder Days has a very perceptive 3-year-old.
  • Everyone needs a snow cone machine. The Bloggess has one. (Beware: the second part of this has a few bad words.)
  • Ready for fall weather? So is Growing up Mo'.

Fall

Okay, so I was going to start joining in on the You Capture carnival over at I Should Be Folding Laundry this week. Several of my friends do it, and I thought it would be a good way to learn how to use our new camera. The theme for this week was the feeling of fall. In fact, I even took some pictures this week for the carnival. But my lovely husband takes the new camera with him every time he leaves the house! And of course he's out of town at the moment. Ahem. We need to talk. I can't take or download pictures if I don't have the camera, now can I? So, I guess I'll post pictures tomorrow when I get home from work. I know you're dying in anticipation.
